Just when I thought the day was like damn damn boring, Kok Keng jioed me to night cycle at around 9pm. The trip started from my place, for Kok, his place. (duh!) And it extended all the way into 15 past mid-night. Here's a outline of the trip.
Balestier Road to Lavendar Street, and from there into Kallang Basin, the jogging and cycle tracks that lead us all the way to the Esplanade. From the Esplande, we continued up the Singapore River, passing Boat and Clarke Quay hitting Robertson Walk and then Mohd Sultan. From there, we cycled up a really steep slope (dunno the road name) and ended up before Singtel Comm Centre. Down Orchard, see chicks and ah guahs, and down Tanglin. Up the slope at Tanglin Road and turned into Ridley Park Road and we slowed down to look at the ever so Majestic 2, Ridley Park Road, the house with the eagle and waterfall and countless nice cars.Ridley Park Road and Loewen Road looked damn spooky at night, can't imagine that that was my camp back in 2002, when HQMC was still there. We worked our way from Holland Road to Bukit Timah Road through Clunky Road and Evans Road and I thought I could find Chancery Lane and head home.
BUT !!! we turned into Trevose Cresent that lead to Kheam Hock Road. These were roads that I've never never seen in my life. It was a ,b>wrong TURN! Well, we both thought that the roads must lead somewhere. By my judgement of bearings, I've decided and told Kok that "when in doubt we should turn right". And we did, we ventured far far into Kheam Hock Road, to a point that the
private housing was no more, no cars and there was tall grasses around and the road lead us to a
TUNNEL that went under a busy road (just confirmed it's PIE). The tunnel, empty as it was, it was really freaky, it's one of those tunnels that Singaporean Drama Serials about ghost are filmed. It was unusally chilly in the tunnel and the road was not marked. It was just a tunnel, no signs, nothing. Still we moved on, crazy huh? The other side of the tunnel was worse, there was forests on both sides and at some usual points, there were unexpected clearings. My goodness, my hairs were standing and I was seriously wondering if the road will end or will lead us to some weird place. The road was still unmarked and bumpy and it was still really chilly, kok and me picked up speed and zipped thru the road, refusing to look on either side of the road. We finally heard cars up ahead, and
POOOFFF!!! there was a
Cemetery on my left! Argh!!! I freaked! But we hit the main road in a matter of seconds and why to my surprise, we were pretty far off the Novena area we were supposed to hit. We were at Lornie Road! I'm familiar with Singaporean roads, so we found our way to Thompson Road then Balestier, then finally home. Awww man... I'm still freaked now, the thought of the place is bad enough!
However, overall, the cycling trip was real fun and adventurous. Thank Kok Keng for not wanting to U-Turn. So the new lessons learnT.
When in doubt, U-Turn! Not left or right! And
If a road begins to look freaky, it'll only get worse.
Just a little photo to end it off...
